The station is situated on the original line of Great Western railway and opened in 1882. It has four platforms, 2 fast and 2 relief lanes. The platforms are linked by footbridge. Tilehurst Station is still in use.
The waiting room at the station is said to be haunted and the room is now kept locked. Some of the ghosts are believed to be people who have committed suicide at the station. Also the old station master still walks the tracks in the early hours of the morning.
