The hall is now Grade I listed and has been designated as a house of outstanding architectural and historical interest. It was built in the 16th century and has been in the same family seat of the Cavanagh-Mainwairings for over 900 years. It has portraits of the family which date from 1624 to the present day. Some of them feature Whitmore as it was. The ground floor is still part cobbled, upstairs has the remains of the stable boys room and it has a rare Elizabethan stable Block.
The two main ghosts that are reported here are of a musical spectre and one that seems to be a stable groom. Also unexplained noises are heard.
