York Race Course

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

York’s racecourse was founded in 1731 and stands on land that is known as the Knavesmire. It is believed that the land was once used as a place where knaves and felons used to be executed. The racecourse stands date from various times, but part of one of the oldest John Carrs dating from 1754 still stands.

Because of where the racecourse has been built, lots of people believe it to be a haunted place, with people who were executed there still roaming around the stands.
